A Renaissance Man & Cabin Fever

February in Chicago brings rain, freezing rain, sleet & snow. When this happens Mr Soobs the Renaissance Man appears and schedules so many fun things that he knows keeps the winter blues away for this California girl. The past four days have been a whirlwind of literature, sports, shenanigans and theater.

Professor Ralph Williams from University of Michigan was in town Thursday giving a lecture on Julius Cesear in connection to the showcase the stage production at Chicago Shakespeare Theater (discounted tix for Michigan grads, use promo code:Michigan). Paul and I both had Professor Williams during our tenure for different courses and he wrote my recommendation for grad school. Getting a chance to hear him again and talk with him after was so special.

Friday I attended annual Cupids & Cocktails charity event  for Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund. Great job to the Hallums sisters who donate time, energy and employment to this endeavor. Friday bled into Saturday and we headed north to Milwaukee for Marquette v DePaul basketball game. I've grown to love Paul's hometown, we have fabulous friends there and the Bloody Mary's come with bacon in the glass and a beer on the side. There are unlimited number of places to drink in Milwaukee I'm convinced this is because it's so cold outside. After dinner at Oscar's where they serve incredible burgers, we found ourselves at Lucky Joes Tiki Bar because when in the Midwest in February you create the tropics.

After a late night, Jim served up an amazing breakfast Sunday morning. 

He's got crazy skills in the kitchen and even sent us home with homemade salsa!

We made it back to Chicago through more rain in time for the play, Teddy Ferrera, at goodman theatre. Last anniversary we gifted one another season tickets for 2012/2013. The best gift that creates more dates all year long. The production Sunday was highly relevant, complex and thought provoking. Teddy Ferrera takes place present day on a large college campus focusing on bullying amongst LGBTQ youth. Playwright Christopher Shinn wrote the play prior to this months news headlines but, as art often imitates life and vice versa, it was eerily similar to Jadin Bell's death.

These Subies in the City were exhausted by end of the weekend, but the Cabin Fever was cured.
